Sharon (Stanick) Levisohn was born in Madison Wisconsin and grew up in a rural area of New Jersey. She received a BA and MSc from Radcliffe College and Purdue University, respectively, and a PhD in veterinary microbiology from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She and her husband and two infants came to live in Israel in 1969. From 1970 until retirement in 2006, she worked as a research scientist at Kimron Veterinary Institute and, as such, was affiliated with the Agricultural Research Council of the Ministry of Agriculture. After retirement she studied Editing of English Texts at Beit Berl College and worked briefly as a scientific editor at Weizmann Institute and free-lance. As a volunteer, she was Rehovot branch chair and national board member of the Israel Association of Academic Women for about a decade. At present in ESRA, she is a board member and coordinator of the volunteer program for Conversational English for Oral Matriculation in the Rehovot branch. Her eight grandchildren are divided between Koronit (Misgav) in the north and kibbutz Beit Nir in the south which provides an opportunity to stay in touch with the peripheral areas of Israel.
