Ol’ Blue Eyes et al Entertain Us

The sounds of music ... the audience at the third Modiin Music Lovers Group

September 11: A date which usually brings a collective shudder at the memory of terrorism at its murderous worst. Yet Sara and Bernard Zagdanski decided to mark the date instead with a burst of American pride in song at ESRA Modiin's third Music Lovers Group.

Hosted in their beautiful home in the Avnei Chen neighborhood, a splendid selection of foot-tapping melodies and tunes awaited the room full of guests. They were treated to singers and composers who ranged from Irving Berlin to Simon and Garfunkel. Who couldn't enjoy "Swanee" sung by the incomparable Al Jolson, or "Blowin' in the Wind" by Bob Dylan, or even "Oklahoma" by Rogers and Hammerstein? Ella Fitzgerald belted out "Mack the Knife", Frank "Mr. Blue Eyes" Sinatra prophetically sang "Fly me to the Moon" and Judy Garland gave her unforgettable rendition of "Over the Rainbow". Barbara Streisand was there too, appropriately singing "Memories", and Elvis of course blasted with the good ol' "Hound Dog".

Oldies, classics and more recent artists helped to make the evening of American favorites a memorable delight enhanced by the delicious refreshments aplenty. To say that all had a good time was an understatement. Thank you Bernard and Sara for all your hard work. The event was a great success and also raised needed funds for Neve ESRA, our afternoon care center for kids at risk.

Save the Date: December 11 "(South) African Beat".
