Gitty Glaser 1930 – 2020

Gitty Glaser made aliyah to Israel from Montreal, Quebec, Canada in l964 with her husband, Gabriel, and their daughter, Davida who later in 2003 sadly passed away.

The family went to the Ulpan Ben Yehuda in Netanya and in 1966 moved to Ramat Hasharon where Gitty lived the rest of her life.

Gitty (B.A., B.Ed.) was a well-known and respected English teacher who taught at Seminar Hakibbutzim (1965 – 1974) and thereafter at Tichon Zahal (1974 -1995). She also taught both high ranking officers and soldiers who needed to upgrade their matriculation marks in order to further their studies.

Upon retirement in 1995, she became active in ESRA and served as Chairperson of the ESRA Ramat Hasharon Branch from 2000 - 2016. In recognition of her leadership of this branch she was awarded the ESRA Volunteer Award in 2004.
Many will remember Gitty for her total commitment to organizing an annual ESRA chamber music concert, the proceeds of which helped ESRA Ramat Hasharon to support a number of local social welfare projects. These included financial aid to needy families recommended by the Ramat Hasharon Welfare Department; Moadonit Nitzanim (Welfare Department); and Moadon 2000 (a Kiddum Noar Project).

In 2009, the City of Ramat Hasharon honored Gitty for her leadership as Chairperson of ESRA Ramat Hasharon and for her English tutoring at Moadon 2000 where she had volunteered since its establishment in January 2000.

Through Gitty, ESRA Ramat Hasharon was also honored for its support of local projects and participation in Shulhan Agol – the City's roof organization coordinating activities, projects and programs of the 31 Ramat Hasharon volunteer organizations.

She continued volunteering in the Moadon 2000 until she became too ill to continue. When asked why she was so active, Gitty replied: "I obtain much satisfaction from my volunteer activities and, above all, my involvement in the life of the Ramat Hasharon community and of Medinat Yisrael as a whole".

Gitty will be remembered with gratitude and affection by the many whose lives she enriched.
